Things to do in the Algarve

There is plenty to do in the Algarve for everyone. You have everything from Aqua parks and Zoo for families to big game fishing, wine tasting and go-karting for the more sporty and adventurous.

Here are a few sites for you to browse and see what is available to you.

Algarve Charters

No holiday to the Algarve is complete without a day at sea. Algarve Charters offers excellent full and half day boat trips along the scenic coastline as well as private yacht charters for a very special occasion. You can opt for full day, half day or romantic sunset cruises. Enjoy a barbeque lunch on a secluded beach and get the best possible views of the stunning rock formations and caves dotted along the Algarve coastline. There is always time for some swimming and for topping up your tan on deck. Algarve Charters operates boat trips from both Vilamoura and Albufeira marinas, at competitive prices. They operate a sailing yacht and a large catamaran. The service is always friendly, professional and informative. Their private yacht charter service is fantastic for a very special day out. Transfers can be arranged from your hotel to the marina. If you want to take to the seas, Algarve Charters is a good place to start.

Aqualand

Formerly known as The Big One, Aqualand has spectacular gardens and is probably the largest of its kind in the Algarve.
The names of the slides give you an idea of what to expect – The Corkscrew, Raging Rapids, Anaconda, Rapids, Banzai Boggan, Kamikaze, Surf Beach, Rainbow Park, Crazy Leap, Crazy Race & Congo River. Users of the Kamikaze slide fall 26m vertically to the pool below in only four seconds. Aqualand is located west of Alcantarilha on the main N125 road some 10km outside Albufeira.

Lagos Zoo

With over 120 different species of animals and 200 botanical species, Lagos Zoo offers a fun and educational day out for the whole family. Undoubtedly one of the main attractions is the primates, but the zoo is also home to lemurs, wallabies, lynxes, reptiles and tropical birds to name but a few! The petting zoo is also a firm favourite with children and adults alike.
The animal enclosures have been designed for the specific needs of each individual species and great care is taken to ensure the well being of all the animals housed at the zoo. The zoo’s philosophy is based around the principles of conserving, education and protecting and there is a classroom where children can watch a film about the environment and have fun drawing and painting the animals they have seen.
There is information on hand for those wanting to learn more about each species and, during peak season, keepers offer talks during feeding times and are happy to answer visitors’ questions. Feeding time is definitely one of the highlights of a day at the zoo and is not to be missed! You can watch the Cormorants and Pelicans being fed daily at 11:30am and 3:00pm and observe the antics of the primates during their feeding time at 4pm.
If you and your family are also in need of some light refreshments, Lagos Zoo has 2 snack bars to choose from within the grounds and the rustic, very reasonably priced Restaurant Cangalho just outside.

There are also 2 playgrounds for the kids to monkey around in!
